What to Bring: Your Ultimate Liveaboard Preparation Guide

Get ready to step aboard Livewire for an incredible island getaway. Check out our handy packing tips, luggage suggestions, and onboard info to ensure your trip to the islands is smooth, comfortable, and stress-free from day one.

🧳 Packing Smart for Comfort on the Water

Soft bags make life easy when you're living on a boat.

Space inside marine cabins is beautifully designed and cozy, so picking the right bag makes a huge difference. Also, if you are catching a regional flight up to Karratha or Geraldton to meet us, they have their own tight baggage spaces. We highly recommend packing everything into soft, collapsible duffle-style bags. Hard-cased suitcases with wheels are tough to squeeze into cabin storage lockers, while soft bags can slide right away out of your road once you've unpacked.

πŸ‘• Sun Protection & Comfortable Deck Wear

Pack light, stay comfortable, and dress for the classic WA elements.

β˜€οΈ Sun Safety: Long-sleeved UV fishing or technical shirts, a good wide-brimmed hat or cap, and a pair of polarized sunglasses to cut the water glare so you can see the coral structures clearly.

🩴 What to Wear on Your Feet: Non-slip, non-marking enclosed shoes, deck runners, or sturdy marine sandals are perfect for moving around the boat safely when the action starts. Traditional thongs are awesome for relaxing inside the living areas and cabins after a swim.

πŸ’¨ For the Evenings: Even in the tropical North West, the ocean breeze can cool down quickly after dark. Toss a lightweight windbreaker, a waterproof jacket, or a comfy fleece pullover into your bag for those late-night sessions on the marlin board.

πŸ›οΈ Cabin Casuals: Just bring your standard comfortable shorts, t-shirts, and trackies for unwinding inside our fully air-conditioned living areas. Clean bath towels, pillows, and fresh fitted sheets are all completely provided for you onboard by our crew.

🧴 Staying Fresh and Feeling Good Offshore

🀒 Motion Sickness: Even though Livewire is powered by a heavy dual-jet industrial system that offers awesome stability, the open ocean can always surprise you. If you think you might get a bit green, it’s a great idea to start a course of standard travel medication (like Travelcalm) the night before we set sail just to be safe.

πŸ’Š Your Own Supplies: Don't forget an ample supply of any personal medications you need. If you have any serious allergies or medical conditions, just let Captains Brandon and Peter know before we leave the dock so they can look after you.

🦟 Sunscreen & Repellent: Bring plenty of your favorite SPF 50+ sunscreen and some insect repellent for when we head ashore to stretch our legs and check out the islands.

🎣 Bringing Your Own Gear vs. Using Ours

πŸ›₯️ Everything is Provided: Pelican Charters fully supplies all top-tier bottom bouncing rods, heavy-duty reels, fresh natural bait, and all the core rig setups you need onboard.

🎯 Want to Bring Your Own? If you are a mad-keen sports fisho who loves using specific gear, you are more than welcome to bring your favorite light-tackle jigging rods, topwater casting setups, or personal lures, stick-baits, and poppers to test out on the reef walls.

πŸ“¦ Keep it Compact: To keep the back deck rigging stations clear and comfortable for all 16 passengers, try to limit your personal tackle to one medium utility tray or a compact tackle bag.

πŸ₯© Hearty Meals Provided & Easy BYO Drink Rules

The Crew Handles the Cookingβ€”Bring Your Favorite Drinks Along

🍳 No One Goes Hungry: Wake up to the smell of fresh coffee, cooked breakfasts, full lunches, and epic dinners featuring the freshest catch of the day prepared straight by our crew.

🍻 BYO Drinks & Snacks: While all your main meals and basic non-alcoholic refreshments are fully sorted, you are welcome to bring along your preferred beers, wine, spirits, and personal favorite snacks.

❄️ Keeping it Chilled: We have a massive 600-liter ice box sitting right on the back deck that is completely dedicated to keeping your personal drinks icy cold for the whole trip.

🌊 A Good Atmosphere: We love a laugh and a cold beer at the end of the day, but we always keep things responsible so everyone stays completely safe while we are out on the open ocean.

πŸ”Œ Charging Devices & Keeping in Touch

πŸ”‹ Power Outlets: Livewire has standard 240V house power outlets available throughout the cabins and galley, so keeping your phone, camera batteries, and GoPros charged up is easy.

πŸ“‘ Extended Range: We head out into some beautiful, remote wilderness areas, but the boat is fitted with a high-power Telstra Mobile Booster to help pull in cellular signal as far off the coast as possible. We also have a tracking satellite dome so you can catch the weekend footy matches on the smart TV.
